What the artist says:
Rock pools were irresistible to me as a child, we lived on the coast and when we went down to the beach I always hoped the tide would be out exposing the rocks at the foot of the cliffs. Whilst my friends were swimming and playing on the sands I was poking about amongst the rocks to see what I could find - beautiful pebbles, shells, even fossils, seaweeds and of course crabs, sea anemones and more pools to explore. The theme of Northern Landscapes suggested images of the coast, particularly the intricacies and small-scale treasures found in the spaces between the rocks.
I experiment with materials and techniques, using a variety of yarns, sisal, paper, cotton and synthetics. These are woven, knotted, opened out, overtwisted, and generally manipulated to create textures, patterns and 3-dimensional forms.
