What the artist says:
I spend a lot of time on the moors, hills and mountains of Northern Britain pursuing my hobby of fell running. I wanted to gather some of my favourite views in one weaving. The title 'Sea to Summits' gave me a way to arrange my pictorial memories from sea level to the highest mountains regardless of their geographical location. A sketch on the Isle of Skye with sea in the foreground and mountains in the distance became the ‘frame’ of my weaving providing the top and bottom of the tapestry. In between I put the bright green hills of the Yorkshire Dales with their stone walled fields; the moors and hilltop war memorial of Saddleworth where I live in the Pennines; the skyline of Penyghent and on through the Lowlands to the Highlands of Scotland.
