What the artist says:

I started by exploring the concept of North and where my North is. I wanted to weave an irregular tapestry and soon my ideas metamorphosed using the concept of “fabric” inspired by the colours of my North.

All my life I have loved woven fabric and double weave. My journey started in tabby weave and 4 shaft fabric and onto exploring, creating and loving discontinuous weft weaving. Making things both practical and desirable are part of my heritage. In my design I focus on the very long drive north through wonderful landscapes to reach the peace of my refuge.
I wanted my fabric to hold memories of the colour of the earth and summer grass, the harvest, rock pools and water, rusty corrugated roofs and sunsets. I looked at folds in fabric and how the landscape image evolves as I move through it. 57 Degrees North has a structure but is ambivalent, deliberately not consistent, not all is seen, leaving something hidden for you to imagine what might be on the other side of the fold!
