What the artists say:
Piece Works is a group submission by the Halifax Square Root Weavers. We are a group of 20 weavers who usually meet once a week in the Industrial Museum in Halifax next to the recently renovated Piece Hall. Halifax is at the heart of a once-thriving textile industry and evidence of this can be seen throughout the town and in the surrounding towns and villages.
Piece Works is a composite submission incorporating individual weavings from most of the group suggestive of a wall of weavings. We have taken inspiration from our industrial textile past including machinery and the textiles woven on them; the diverse industrial and rural landscapes and waterscapes of the North; stone carvings and other iconic images of our part of the North. We worked pieces in A4 or A5 but the use of yarn, techniques and colours was left to each weaver to decide.
