What the artist says:

I started Tapestry weaving 3 years ago at the age of 82 at The Weaving Rooms. This piece is woven on my new Glimakra loom.  I am using a warp set of 10 WPI.

Born and raised near the banks of the Tyne my Tapestry is of a famous local landmark, the wooden dolly.  The modern figure is by ‘mouseman’ Robert Thompson but initially in 1805 the dolly was a ship's figurehead.
Historically sailors took a chip from her as a good luck token as they went to sea, which explains her 4 replacements!   As a child I passed the fourth, a fishwife with creel, on the way to watch the boats in the harbour, and as an adult  'on my way to work to my office at the North Shields fish quay.
