What the artist says:

The piece was inspired by the connection between viewing the [star constellation] The Big Dipper from different vantage points of ‘home’: Northern Ontario in Canada; West Yorkshire and the Llyn Peninsula in Wales. The [stars of the] Dipper remain constant points of orientation no matter where I am.

In addition, The Angel of the North [outside Newcastle] serves as a reminder of the totem constructed by First Nation People in Canada; the smaller stone Inukshuk is a way-marker which, like the Dipper in the sky, help me to find my way home wherever that happens to be.
