What the artist says:

This title refers to the inventors of the steam engine and consequent developments at the start of the Industrial Revolution leading to the textile industry.

Weaving seems a natural way for me to communicate what I see and feel. It combines the narrative of painting with the three-dimensional presence of sculpture, and presents itself as an art form in its own right. As a constructed textile is built from layers of yarn so is a landscape built from the earth’s resources. This likeness allows me to get closer to the essence of what it is I am trying to communicate. I usually make sketches and take photographs on the spot then develop them on paper or practically in the studio. When the image is refined I turn it into a working drawing as a guide when producing the final work.
