What the artist says:

In 2013 I received a birthday card from a friend, just right for a tapestry.

First question – how to weave it? The reeds make a strong vertical line, but would be tricky to weave the ‘right’ way round. Sideways, however, the reeds could be woven more naturally. How to weave the shoreline and reflections, then? Pick and pick. So, weave it on its side.

Second question – colour? Black and white, or a different palette? Hues that pick up the water and the trees, with blending to give subtle variation and shading. Dark red as a contrast helps the reeds stand out.
It’s strange weaving a tapestry on its side. You keep turning your head to see if it’s working as you want. The original image ends up on its side too, but that helps with looking at it in an abstract way – weaving the patterns and forms rather than becoming distracted by the image.
